Resolution to study the effects of cult activity on college campuses and to develop ways the North Georgia Conference can support individuals and families who are tragically impacted by cult activities.
Whereas, the role of the Georgia Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry is to provide resources for local church ministries in the area of higher education and campus ministry. (¶631.4a3)And whereas, the role of this Georgia Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry includes the responsibility to interact with public higher education as it reflects on the wholeness of persons and the meaning of life. (¶631.4e2)
And whereas, the detrimental effect of verbal, psychological, and physical abuse in the covenant of the human community. (¶16,H)
And whereas, individuals and families in the bounds of our conference and around the world have students and family members who are tragically harmed by cult activities that target young adults on college campuses.
Be it resolved, that the Bishop appoint a task force from within the Georgia Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry to study the impact of cult activities on our college campuses, to report their findings to the next annual conference, and to recommend ways the North Georgia annual conference can support and advocate for persons victimized by cult activities.
