The Office of Connectional Ministries

     The Office of Connectional Ministries is responsible for serving as the steward of the vision of the annual conference and for coordinating the mission and ministry of the annual conference in accordance with that vision.  The Office of Connectional Ministries creates and nurtures relationships and connections among the local, district, annual conference, and general church ministries.  It provides encouragement, coordination, and support for the ministries of nurture, outreach and witness in districts and congregations for the transformation of the world. It coordinates advocacy and monitoring functions to ensure that the church is consistent with its values.  It facilitates the alignment of the total resources of the annual conference to its mission.   It supervises the recruitment, training, and leadership development of conference leaders.

     There shall be a Director of Connectional Ministries who will be selected by the resident bishop in consultation with the extended cabinet.

The Role of the Director of Connectional Ministries

1.     As the steward of the annual conference vision, see that the annual conference follows through on its vision by programming and keeping the vision before the annual conference. 

2.     Coordinate the annual conference ministry and mission to facilitate the connections among the local, district, annual conference, and general church ministries for the purpose of networking, resourcing, and communicating shared ministry.

3.     Consistent with the vision, encourage accountability of all activities of the annual conference.  

4.     Identify the persons, lay and clergy, who have gifts and abilities for leadership in fulfilling the vision.

5.     Supervise and initiate the recruitment, training, and leadership development of annual conference leaders.

6.     As a catalyst for change and renewal, point the annual conference toward creative paths of ministry where God is leading.

7.     Assist the annual conference ministries of nurture, outreach and witness.

8.     Coordinate the advocacy and monitoring functions to ensure that the church is consistent with its values as stated in The Book of Discipline.

9.     Through research and study, keep the annual conference responsive to emerging local and world needs.

10.   Facilitate the alignment of the total resources in keeping with our stated vision. (See the Conference Vision Forum Document.)

11.   Convene the team leaders at least once a quarter for the purpose of coordination and implementation of the vision and mission of the annual conference.

12.   Encourage exchange of information and scheduling between the teams with frequent meetings of their secretaries/information officers.

13.   Deploy and supervise the former Council on Ministries staff.  Personnel may be made available to assist (not direct or bear total responsibility) in carrying out the programs and ministries instituted and/or deemed in keeping with the conference vision by the several teams and committees.  These assignments shall be made according to functions given to the Office of Connectional Ministries and priorities stated by the annual conference and its vision.  They shall be in concert with established personnel policies and budget constraints.
