Resolution on North Georgia Annual Conference Structure
Whereas, The Book of Discipline -- 2000 (and 1996 previously)
deletes language concerning the Conference Council on
Ministries; and
Whereas, Paragraph 608 of The Book of Discipline states,
The annual conference is responsible for structuring its
ministries and administrative procedures in order to
accomplish its purpose (Para. 601); and
Whereas, Paragraph 607 of The Book of Discipline indicates
that the annual conference is to envision the ministries
necessary to live out its mission and to align resources
accordingly; and
Whereas, the stewardship of resources is an urgent priority; and
Whereas, other annual conferences have successfully made
changes in structure in recent years for more effective
ministry.
Therefore, be it resolved that the North Georgia Annual
Conference in session June 11-14, 2002 adopt a new structure
as depicted in the Functional Relationship Chart which
includes the dissolution of the Conference Council on
Ministries.
Be it further resolved that there be an elected Conference Vision
Forum as described in the document entitled Conference
Vision Forum.
Be it further resolved that there be an Office of Connectional
Ministries and Director thereof as delineated in the document
entitled The Office of Connectional Ministries and enabled
by Paragraph 607 of The Book of Discipline -- 2000.
Be it further resolved that implementation of the new structure will
begin upon passage of this resolution and shall be essentially
completed no later than July 1, 2004.
Be it further resolved that persons elected to leadership of the
newly formed teams or to membership on a program
committee in 2002 and 2003 shall be exempt from term limits
stated in standing rule 10 (2001 Conference Journal) until the
beginning of the next quadrennium.
Be it further resolved that the Conference Treasurer in consultation
with the Conference Council on Finance and Administration be
directed to make any necessary reallocations of budgeted items
to implement the new structure.
Finally, be it resolved that the Long Range Planning Committee
serve until the Conference Vision Forum is elected...
