United
Methodists invade Athens!
United Methodists
from across North Georgia -- including Gateway's pastor
Jerry Varnado and our lay delegate Nancy Fajardo -- will
gather at the Classic Center this week for the
2005
Session of the
North
Georgia Conference.

In the United Methodist Church, Conferences
(technically called "Annual Conferences") are made up of all
the UM churches in a certain geographical area.
The North Georgia
Conference is the second largest conference in our
denomination, with more than 900 churches and more than
330,000 members.
Held each summer, Annual
Conference sessions are a cross between a business meeting
and a family reunion.
Delegates to a Conference
session have the right to vote in certain matters affecting
the church, such setting the Conference budget, changing the
rules of the church, and adopting Conference
goals.
Plus, the session includes
times of worship, testimony, and Bible teaching.
The theme of this year
Conference gathering, based on a text
from the Old Testament book of Micah, is "We Are Called to
Love Kindness."
On Wednesday afternoon, conference delegates and members of
area UM churches will disperse around Athens for the Great
Day of Service, which will include work on nearly 100
difference mission projects, ranging from nursing home
visitation to doing clean-up in area parks.
The presiding officer of
the session will be our North Georgia bishop, Lindsey Davis.

Conference session, with links to archived audio and video,

Taking
the vows of membership
|
The Bolings, who
took the vows of membership on June 12, were active at
Gateway for several years in the late 1990s, before Larry
joined the staff at New Covenant Worship Center.
We're blessed indeed to
have them back as part of the Gateway family!
In becoming members, Larry
and Anna pledged to support Gateway Church with their
"prayers,
presence, gifts, and
service."
