FROM
THE PASTOR From We
again recall the promise of "a new
heaven and a new earth" in which there
will be no more death or mourning or
crying or pain. From the pages of
Scripture, we can hear a booming voice
from the throne of heaven: "I am making
everything new!" (see Rev.
22:1-7). By
raising Jesus from the dead, God
demonstrated His power to fulfill that
promise. One
of my favorite Easter sermons was
preached in the Fourth Century by St.
John Chrysostom, perhaps the greatest
preacher of his day. His
words about the implications of the
Resurrection still ring with truth and
power: Let
the wise servants blissfully enter
into the joy of their
Lord! Let
those who have toiled since the
first hour, let them now receive
their due reward. Let those who come
later not be afraid of being too
late, for the Lord is gracious and
He receives the last even as the
first! Come
you all: enter into the joy of your
Lord! All of you enjoy the banquet
of faith; all of you receive the
riches of His goodness. Let
no one fear death, for the death of
our Savior has set us free! He has
destroyed it by enduring it; He has
despoiled hell by going down into
its kingdom; He has angered it by
allowing it to taste of His
flesh. Hell
is angered because it is frustrated;
it is angered because it has been
mocked; it is angered because it has
been destroyed, it is angered
because it is now captive! It seized
a body, and lo, it discovered God!
It seized earth, and, behold, it
encountered heaven! O
death, where is your sting? Christ
is risen and you are abolished!
Christ is risen and the demons are
cast down! Christ
is risen and the tomb is emptied of
the dead for He has become the
Leader and Reviver of those who have
fallen asleep. To
Him be glory and power for ever and
ever! My
friends, the Lord is risen
indeed! Remember,
God loves you and so does the preacher.

Because
Jesus Christ is risen...
The
implications of the
Resurrection
We
are about to celebrate Easter, the
living evidence that God hasn't
abandoned His creation to destruction
and decay, but is at work redeeming it
-- even using the likes of us to do
it!

Unchanging
truthLet
all the faithful, and all lovers of
God rejoice, in the splendor of this
feast!
Let no one grieve over poverty, for
the universal kingdom has been
revealed. Let no one weep over sins,
for pardon has shone from the
grave.
