THE
METHODIST
CONNECTION From The
North Georgia Conference is the largest
conference in our denomination, with
more than 900 churches and nearly
350,000 members. Held
each June, Annual Conference sessions
are a cross between a business meeting
and a family reunion. Delegates
to a Conference session have the right
to vote in certain matters affecting
the church, such setting the Conference
budget,adopting Conference goals, and
electing delegates to the 2008 General
Conference (the quadrennial meeting of
United Methodists from around the
world). An
annual conference session also includes
times of worship, testimony, and Bible
teaching. The
theme
of this year North Georgia gathering is
"We Are Called to Walk Humbly With
God," based on a text
from the Old Testament book of
Micah. The
presiding officer of the 2007 session
will be North Georgia's resident
bishop, Lindsey Davis. Audio/video
streaming will be available
here.
